Transport FAQ

Travel time from the airport?

Travel time from Canberra airport to the National Gallery is approximately 20 minutes, however it is advised to allow at least 30 minutes for the trip.

How can I get to the conference from the airport? Taxi is the most convenient way to get from the airport to the National Gallery of Australia. Contact details of key taxi companies are listed to the right. There is a bus service from Canberra airport to Canberra city – for information click here.

What car rental options are available?

Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz & Thrifty car companies are all represented at the Canberra airport.

How do I get a taxi from the Gallery? There is a free taxi phone on the information desk in the foyer of the NGA and our Visitor Services staff will assist you.

What car parking is available for the conference? The NGA has an undercover car park (entry from Parkes Place) and an above ground car park (entry from Bowen Drive). These normally open at 9.45am but will be available to conference delegates from 9.00am from Thursday 2 May – Saturday 4 May.
Where is the nearest public bus stop to the National Gallery of Australia?
The ACTION bus service has regular routes that stop opposite the NGA on King Edward Terrace or Parkes Place. These are Routes 2 and 3 (weekdays) and Routes 934 and 935 (weekends). Route 6 also services the Parkes area. For details of the routes of these buses and the latest bus timetable information please visit the ACTION buses website action.act.gov.au or call ACTION's Customer Service Centre on 13 17 10. Visitor Services staff at the front desk can also assist you.
