The National Gallery of Australia Foundation raises funds and secures gifts of works of art to support the vision of the Gallery and to develop the national art collection for all Australians.
The principal objectives of the Foundation are:
- to promote, maintain and develop the national collection of works of art owned by the National Gallery of Australia
- to promote, maintain and develop the National Gallery of Australia as a cultural institution
- to improve access to the national collection for all Australians through travelling exhibitions, publications, education, public programs and online access.
Foundation donors support the Gallery through tax deductible donations, gifts, pledges and bequests towards general programs or areas of special interest. By joining the Foundation you will become further involved in the life of the National Gallery of Australia and you will experience firsthand how your benefaction contributes to the development of the visual arts in Australia.
All donations to the Gallery are fully tax deductible and donations of $1000 or more entitle you to become a member of the Foundation. Donations of works of art to the Gallery that are valued at $1000 or more also entitle the donor to membership of the Foundation.
In addition to providing general support for the Gallery’s exhibition, education programs and public programs, individual donations finance specific projects such as Founding Donors 2010 and Treasure a textile conservation fund.
Membership categories
There are eight categories of membership within the Foundation based on cumulative donations:
- Visionary Benefactors: $5,000,000 or more
- Founding Benefactors: $2 million or more
- Perpetual Benefactors: $1 million to $2 million
- Benefactors: $500 000 to $1 million
- Life Governor: $100 000 to $500 000
- Fellows: $50 000 to $100 000
- Supporters: $10 000 to $50 000
- Friends: $5000 to $10 000
- Members: $1000 to $5000
