National Gallery of Australia
Occupational Health and Safety campaign launch

Thursday 28 April 2005

The National Gallery of Australia will participate in World Day for Health and Safety at Work on Thursday 28 April 2005. The day is intended to focus international attention on promoting and creating a safe and healthy culture at work, and to help reduce the number of work-related injuries each year. As part of this special day the Gallery will be launching an innovative Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) campaign developed specifically for the Gallery work environment.

The Gallery is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace for all of its employees, and participating in the National Safety Council of Australia (NSCA) Five Star Health and Safety Management Program. As part of the Gallery’s goal of achieving a five-star NSCA rating, the OH&S communication campaign has been developed to raise awareness of health and safety issues.

Initiative was taken by a team comprising individual staff from most sections of the Gallery’s operations to develop a campaign relating specifically to the Gallery environment and its staff, aiming to engage staff to be aware of safety issues that directly relate to them.

Underpinning the campaign is a new OH&S brand tagline ‘Making health and safety a fine art’. The tagline is bolstered by a suite of strategic colours and messages that are reinforced by iconic images from the Gallery’s collection of Sidney Nolan’s Ned Kelly series. The campaign is supported by branded marketing material, including framed posters, a re-designed email newsletter, and promotional items such as drink bottles and stationary, which will all be launched at a staff presentation on World Day for Health and Safety at Work.

The National Gallery of Australia aims to create one of the safest workplaces in the nation by ‘Making health and safety a fine art’, and is pleased to launch it’s own OH&S brand communication campaign to raise the awareness of OH&S and to promote World Day for Health and Safety at Work.
