By the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, the National Gallery of Australia’s Sculpture Garden comes alive this weekend with a program of free creative art workshops for children. Sculpture Garden Sunday encourages visitors to look at, think about and make art, with workshops for children of all ages, including a special workshop for children 3 yrs and under.

Throughout the morning, children and their families can enjoy drawing, sculpture, painting and clay workshops facilitated by artists, Gallery educators and voluntary guides. Visitors can participate with artists in the creation of installation pieces throughout the garden.

This event is the launch of the National Australia Bank Sculpture Gallery children’s trail which enables families to explore sculptures in the new gallery. The Sculpture Garden children’s trail booklet is also available to tour the sculptures in the garden. Other activities include Ickle Pickle Productions who engage audiences with a theatrical response to the outdoor collection during the morning. Gallery conservators will also conduct a ‘Bug hunt’ to share some of their secrets about how the Gallery cares for its art collection.

In the afternoon visitors can relax and enjoy lunch under the trees and listen to local bands The Cashews and Dr Stovepipe. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch or make the most of the coffee cart and sausage sizzle.

For their own safety, children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Sculpture Garden Sunday will be cancelled in the event of bad weather conditions. For the complete Sculpture Garden Sunday program visit: nga.gov.au/sculpturegarden/sunday.cfm
