Crooks/Morrison

2pm Sunday 27 August 2006

The National Gallery of Australia presents fullscreen 06: explorations in digital media, a diverse program of artists, performances and screenings from the cutting edge of digital art. The second of the three-part series features digital media artists Daniel Crooks and Scott Morrison at 2pm on Sunday 27 August 2006.

fullscreen is an insight into current issues and future trends in digital media art. Crooks and Morrison will discuss their inspirations and influences and screen the videos that have them both tagged as artists to watch.

Daniel Crooks is known for combining technical mastery with poetic sensibility to create works that distort time and perspective. His films and photography have been exhibited in Australia and internationally, most recently in world without end at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, and at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam. In 2005 Daniel was the Australia Council’s artist-in-residence in London and has received numerous awards, including the Stuttgart prize for animation, and a Dendy Australian short film award at the 1996 Sydney International Film Festival.

Canberra sound and video artist Scott Morrison’s work deals with relationships of the seen and the heard. His digital video work focuses on abstractions of natural or man-made occurrences in order to provoke and provide new experiences of situations we encounter everyday. Morrison’s screen-based work has been selected for festivals and galleries around the world and has been commissioned by abc2 and in 2006 he was profiled by Triple J.

Since it began in 2004, fullscreen has attracted a broad spectrum of high profile digital media artists including Stelarc, Bill Viola, Nat Bates and Philip Brophy.
