Tiffany Speight sings Dame Nellie Melba's arias

The National Gallery of Australia proudly presents acclaimed Australian soprano Tiffany Speight — performing a selection of arias from Dame Nellie Melba's repertoire — at 7pm on Friday 11 June, in a farewell event for the successful exhibition The Edwardians: secrets and desires.

The event provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy a glass of champagne with friends as you enjoy the beautiful arias that helped make Dame Nellie Melba an international star.

Ms Speight is an exciting young Australian soprano. After graduating from Victoria College of the arts in 1992 she has been awarded scholarships and awards enabling her continue her studies in Australian and overseas. She will sing surrounded by sumptuous works from the Edwardians exhibition, and will be accompanied by talented local pianist Anthony Smith.

Ms Speight has performed with the Victoria State Opera and was a recipient of the 2002 Vienna State Opera Award, making her European debut in Vienna. She has also graced Opera by George at Madew Winery, Lake George NSW. In 2004 her performances have included Yum Yum in The Mikado, Valencienne in The Merry Widow and Suzanna in Le nozze di Figaro, all for Opera Australia.

Ticket cost $45 and $40 for members/concessions; this includes entry to the exhibition and refreshments.

The Edwardians: secrets and desires comprises 140 paintings, sculptures, costumes and designs. It includes images of well-known figures such as Percy Grainger, Dame Nellie Melba, Virginia Woolf and Peter Pan. The exhibition features works by much-loved artists, among them, James McNeill Whistler, John Singer Sargent, Rupert Bunny, E Philips Fox, Gwen John, Tom Roberts and Walter Sickert.
