The National Gallery of Australia and Sony Foundation Australia are very pleased to announce the selection of the 2007 Summer Scholarship students.

The Summer Scholarship, established for more than ten years, brings sixteen year 11 students, two from each state and territory, to Canberra for a week.

Ron Radford, Director of the National Gallery of Australia, announced the names of participating students today and made the following comment,

‘It my great pleasure to note how many of these students are from regional centres. This program brings together students from regional as well as remote and metropolitan Australia. The standard of entries was excellent and attests to the strength and interest for the visual arts across Australia.’

Creative workshops with artists, interaction with the Gallery’s professional staff and exposure to the behind-the-scenes workings of a major cultural institution develop the students’ understanding of the many career opportunities that art galleries and museums can offer.

The students arrive in Canberra on Sunday 14 January, meeting each other for the first time and prepare to be inspired for the year ahead. The National Gallery of Australia’s collection and summer exhibitions Egyptian antiquities from the Louvre: journey to the Afterlife, Revolutionary Russians and Grace Crowley: being modern will be on display during the students’ visit.

The National Gallery of Australia and Sony Foundation Australia Summer Scholarship is also supported by the Brassey of Canberra, The National Institute of the Arts and the Canberra Art Teachers’ Association.

The scholarship has again attracted more than 300 applications from across Australia and the students are:
