Goal 8: Strengthen our resource base To secure additional financial and other resources from the private and public sectors and strategically manage our resources to achieve the Gallery’s goals Key strategies
Consistent approaches to fundraising have yielded substantial increases in funding from both the public and private sectors. The Gallery has created opportunities to increase revenue by implementing strategic marketing and merchandising plans, licensing, public programs, and membership, and through bequest and sponsorship programs. The Gallery has worked collaboratively with artists, designers and crafts practitioners to create commercial product that supports the national collection and exhibitions. An increase in gifts of cash and works of art to the Gallery was generated in particular though a rejuvenated National Gallery of Australia Foundation. The Foundation's target of raising $10 million for the acquisition of major works of art was exceeded. Government funding of the Gallery increased from $19.9 million in 1996–97 to $37.1 million in 2003–04, providing greater support to acquire works of art and enhance the building. |
