Young children from the northern Italian Montessori School Casa Dei Bambini used tiny paper and delicate coloured pencils to portray the destruction of their community as bombs dropped on their churches, mountain villages and families. Spanish children from a French refugee camp drew images which showed the ruins of their homes and the resulting humanitarian efforts to assist the wounded and displaced. In Austria, children watched the changing of their nation as a new regime raised flags, and graphically recorded the development of a new social order.
