The NGA now has an ongoing partnership with the Canberra branch of Dr Sketchy's. Established in 2005 Dr Sketchy's has branches in over a hundred cities around the globe, from Akron to Zagreb. Combining glamorous models, performance and drawing in a fun, welcoming atmosphere, Dr Sketchy's is the perfect place to get your fill of life-drawing.



Dr Sketchy's burlesque drawing:
The art of Kabuki
Saturday 9 August 2–5 pm | ages 18+

Draw glamorous models and performers inspired by the art of classical Kabuki costume and makeup. Pay bar and light refreshments available. Bookings essential.

Dr Sketchy's will also be present at our annual drawfest – The Big Draw which will take place on Sunday 26 October 10.30 am – 2.30 pm. This will be a special family friendly workshop - details about this program will be available soon.

  • Brown paper bags

Materials permitted in this workshop:

  • Graphite/ lead Pencils
  • Coloured pencils
  • Oil pastels, crayons
  • Charcoal pencils/ sticks
  • Posca pens
  • Textas
  • Pens
  • Conte crayons

IMPORTANT: Please ensure the above materials are in a sealed container or bag when brought into the gallery. These materials are not normally permitted in the gallery (except graphite/lead pencils).

Materials not permitted in this workshop:

  • Easels
  • Acrylic paint
  • Oil paint
  • Spray paint
  • Liquid ink or watercolours
