They ventured out into the world, drove cars and went on exotic travels to Morocco or Italy. Others, although still confined to more domestic roles, enjoyed the benefits of modern inventions such as less restrictive clothing and physical exercise. Edwardians began taking lunches and afternoon teas in the garden as a break from the customary rigid dining etiquette. They also met in cafés, taking tea in less formal surroundings, enjoying each other’s company and being ‘seen’. |
