Artist: Charles AISEN Birth/Death: 1900–1991 Title: Studley Park Road, Kew Credit Line: Gift of the artist 1989 National Gallery of Australia, Canberra Charles Aisen’s tableau-like tin sculptures drew from his observations of life in Australia during the hardships of the Depression. In Studley Park Road, Kew road builders work accompanied by a slogan reading: ‘Studley Park Road was built in the early thirties during the Depression, to give a days work called the dole of the pick and shovel’.
