Biography
BAWDEN, Lionel, 1974

Lionel Bawden was born in 1974 in Sydney. In 1997 he obtained a Bachelor of Visual Art in painting from the Canberra School of Art, the Australian National University. Bawden was an exchange student in the oil painting workshop, China National Academy of Fine Arts, Hangzhou Province, for six months during 1995-96. Bawden was part of ACME Performance Group in 1996-97. He has produced several solo exhibitions and projects since 1997 including BIRO Sherman Artbox, Sydney, 2001; Possession - A self storage unit, Casula Powerhouse, New South Wales, 2000; and LED at Canberra Contemporary Art Space, 1998. His works have been included in Hatched - National Graduate Art Show, Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, 1998. He won the Raw Nerve Gallery Annual Acquisition Prize, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Gallery, in 1998. Lionel Bawden currently lives in Sydney.
