Biography

geniwate is a new media artist with a national and international reputation. In 1999, she was the co-winner of the trace-Alt-X International Hypertext Competition for rice. In 2001 she was short-listed in the Electronic Literature Organization’s international poetry competition for Nepabunna. In 2004 she won the Mayne Award for Multimedia, Adelaide Festival, for concatenation. Her work has been widely displayed, both within Australia and internationally, and most recently concatenation and other generative poems were part of the 2004 exhibition of Australian artists at ACMI, Melbourne. Jenny Weight is a lecturer at RMIT University, Melbourne, where she teaches practical and theoretical courses concerning networked and programmed media at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is doing a PhD on the aesthetic of transience, which manifests in contemporary media forms and communications technologies including the mobile phone. Jenny is currently developing several projects to be produced in collaboration with her Masters students based on mobile phone technology.
