Claudia Borella's work is characterised by its precision and crisp geometrical form and decoration. It has drawn critical attention since she first began exhibiting in Australia in 1993.

This elongated open bowl form, made of kiln-formed, red, black, blue and cream laminated glass, reflects Borella's industrial design background and the technical rigour developed while she was artist-in-residence at the American Bullseye Glass Company studio in Portland, Oregon, in 1998. The finely-balanced linear form and striking use of laminates of opaque glass are authoritative and confident, on a scale that suggests an architectural presence. Borella's use of materials and colours evokes the ebullience and visual drama of Italian design of the 1950s.
