Directions + Parking

The National Gallery of Australia is located in the Parliamentary Triangle on the south side of Lake Burley Griffin. It is adjacent to the High Court of Australia and The National Portrait Gallery and within walking distance of the National Library and Old Parliament House.

Parking

The Gallery has two car parks :

Accessible Parking

Parking for people with limited mobility is available in both NGA car parks. Assisted lift access to the Gallery is available from the underground car park off Parkes Place with second lift closer to King Edward Terrace.

Buses

Use of public transport is recommended due to limited parking near the Gallery. The closest bus stop to the National Gallery, on the ACTION bus routes listed below, is Kings Avenue/National Circuit, only a short 5-minute walk from the Gallery. For additional timetable information call Acton’s Customer Service Centre on 131710 or visit action.act.gov.au.

Walking

From the city, across Commonwealth Avenue, to the Gallery will take approx 30 minutes.

From the Bus Depot Markets car park (available Mon-Sat) will take 20 minutes.

Taxi

Ferry

Ferries are available for leisurely trips across the lake, taking 20 minutes. Ferries operate from Commonwealth Park, near Civic, to the pier in front of Commonwealth Place, a 5 minute walk from Gallery.

Lake Burley Griffin Cruises operate every day, departing from Acton ferry wharf (near Commonwealth Park) daily 10.30 am, 1.30 pm, 2.30 pm plus 11.30 am and 3.30 pm on weekends.
