In 1818 Louis de Freycinet made a scientific voyage to the north of Western Australia on the ship Uranie. Also aboard were Jacques Arago, a French writer, artist and explorer and J. Alphonse Pellion, a topographical draughtsman. They produced early records of Australian flora and fauna, and illustrated significant events from the journey.
