Melbourne Theme: Cities & Suburbs

Artist: Jan SENBERGS
Birth/Death: 1939

Title: Melbourne

Credit Line: Collection of the artist

It is rare to see a really spectacular view of Melbourne. This is why Jan Senbergs' glorious vista of the city is one of the most heroic urban images since the Heidelberg School made a few tentative forays into the painting of modern life. Senbergs takes his lead from the 19th-century panoramas constructed by topographical artists and photographers, which set out to encompass the entire life of a community within one sweeping overview.
