Walter Burley Griffin and his wife Marion Mahoney were both architects whose work strongly reflected their spiritual beliefs. Despite not having visited the Canberra site, Griffin conceived a plan which was a creative response to the local topography, with a central lake and grand triangle bisected by the axis of Mt Ainslie and Capital Hill.
