Flying Carpet
Interactive installation
Collection of the Artist
Flying carpet has no visible interface. It consists of an animated
pattern projected from the ceiling onto the mat’s surface and a thin
layer of switches underneath the carpet that record movement and trigger
interactions. As you walk on Flying carpet the pattern animation swirls and bounces away from your feet, increasing its rhythm the faster you move.
In Trefzger’s ongoing work with household items, banal domestic fixtures become part of a strange and magical world. Fascinated by the extraordinary domestic technologies in Jacques Tati’s film Mon Oncle, Trefzger has created Flying carpet as part of a suite of appliances and furnishings for the new millennium.
