Born in Oklahoma in 1937, Joe Goode moved to California to study at the Chouinard Art Institute in the early 1960s. He became a central figure in the Californian Pop Art scene, and was included in the seminal exhibition New paintings of common objects in 1962. Goode worked at Gemini GEL to create a variety of prints.

His English still life series from 1967, involving a glass and spoon in various positions, explores the Pop notion of the everyday.
