Born Florence1494, Died Fontainebleau 1540. An Italian painter and draughtsman who was also active in France. He was a major Florentine Mannerist, whose art is both elegant and emotionally intense. He was influential in Rome, Florence and Fontainebleau and became one of a group of Italian artists who pioneered a northern, more secular Mannerism.
