Born Venice 1696, Died Madrid 1770. Tiepolo was the most brilliant and sought after Italian painter of his period. His fame rests on his fresco decorations of allegorical, mythological and religious subjects. He revived the glories of the Venetian school, of Veronese and Tintoretto enriched with the experience of the Roman and Neapolitan Baroque. His talent was in satisfying the needs of his patrons, while painting narrative and devotional subject matter with dramatic force. He enjoyed international patronage and painted fresco cycles for Prince Karl Philip von Greiffenklau of Wurzburg and Charles III of Spain. He was mainly active in Venice between 1741 and 1750 and he spent the last eight years of his life in Madrid.
