Sir Henry Loch (1827–1900), later 1st Baron Loch of Drylaw, was Governor of Victoria 1884–89. He was a popular and respected governor. This portrait was completed by 1885 and shown in exhibitions in that year. It would have been inscribed with the date of ‘1886’ when it was included in the Colonial and Indian Exhibition in London in May 1886.
