A Japanese lady shows Quinn’s fascination for Japanese people and their culture. Quinn differed from other artists who turned to orientalist themes in portraying, with cultural sensitivity, a Japanese lady in her traditional costume. Other artists such as JD Fergusson and Hilda Rix Nicholas portrayed European women ‘dressed up’ in oriental clothing.
