‘One of my favourite photographs of Patricia; I like its serenity and casualness.’ (Shmith)

Tuckwell was one of Shmith’s favourite models during the 1940s and 1950s. A violinist in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, she was given the name ‘Bambi’ by the flautist Neville Amadio, a name that stuck (her brother, Barry Tuckwell, is one of the world’s outstanding French horn virtuosi). She was so beautiful that it was said at the time that people purchased tickets to the concerts just to gaze at her. She modelled extensively for Shmith and they married in 1949. In 1951 she was one of the founders of the Mannequins’ Association of Victoria. In 1967 she married George Lascelles, 7th Earl of Harewood.
