Born Naples 1634, Died Naples 1705. The most important Italian decorative painter of the second half of the 17th century. Giordano’s lively art brilliantly combined Neapolitan and Venetian styles. He had a prodigious output and could imitate any style of painting. Ten years of his life were spent painting in Spain on commission, after which he returned to his home town of Naples. He introduced a new sense of light and glowing colour, of movement and dramatic action and was internationally successful.
