Abdul-Rahman Abdullah (b. 1977) is a renowned artist living and working on Wadjuk Nyungar country, in the Peel region of Western Australia. Working primarily in sculpture and installation, he explores the intersections of identity, culture and the natural world. He is known for his figurative wood carving, expanding on traditional craft processes in a contemporary context to create new modes of storytelling. Living on a cattle station and immersed in an agricultural environment, his practice offers alternative perspectives across diverse, and often disparate communities.
Since graduating from Curtin university in 2012, Abdul-Rahman has exhibited widely around Australia, notably at Tarrawarra Biennial 2023; Adelaide Biennial 2016, 2022 AGSA; and The National 2019 MCA. His work is held in public, corporate, university and private collections. Previous roles include – Board member, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (2017–21); Public Art Advisor, City of Perth (2018); Regional Arts Western Australia Fellowship (2021–23) and Set Designer, Marrugeku (2019–2023).
