Overview of the role
The National Gallery aims to play a leadership role in advancing the teaching and learning of critical and creative thinking across Australia through a landmark Creative Learning Practice and Research Project.
The Creative Learning Programs Convenor is a key role in the research team, with responsibility for the development of creative learning pedagogy and practice within the National Gallery. Together with the Education Manager, the Creative Learning Programs Convenor works closely with Artist Educators, Learning Facilitators and Volunteer Guides to embed creative learning pedagogies within all aspects of student and teacher engagement at the National Gallery, including onsite and online learning programs, teacher professional learning and online learning resources.
The Creative Learning Programs Convenor is responsible for the development of ongoing training programs for Artist Educators, Learning Facilitators and volunteer guides. The role will also lead the collaborative development of learning programs and resources.
The Creative Learning Programs Convenor will work closely with the First Nations Lead Artist Educator, ensuring that all National Gallery learning programs and resources centre First Nations art and artists and are informed by the Gallery’s principles for First Nations learning programs. First Nations staff in the Learning Team connect with and contribute to the National Gallery’s First Nations Engagement Portfolio.
The National Gallery embeds artists within the development and delivery of learning experiences, recognising artists as creative and critical thinkers and people who bring unique perspectives to engagement with art, ideas and artmaking. As a creative practitioner, the Creative Learning Programs Convenor will understand teaching and learning as part of their practice and support the Gallery’s research into the impacts of artist-led practice.
The Creative Learning Programs Convenor will support the development of the Creative Learning Practice and Research project, with responsibility for project management and stakeholder relationships with external partners, including academic institutions and schools in the ACT and regional areas across Australia.
This position reports to the Education Manager and will work closely with the Digital Learning Manager and Head of National Learning. The role is funded by Learning & Digital Patron, Tim Fairfax AC.
