Kosso Eloul was born in Russia in 1920, but relocated often during his lifetime. His artistic training began at the Bezalel Academy of Arts in Jerusalem and continued in Chicago where he studied at both the Art Institute of Chicago and the Chicago School of Design, from 1938 to 1943. After being drafted to the United States navy in 1944–45, Eloul returned to Palestine where he fought in the 1948 Arab–Israeli war before relocating to Israel and becoming a founding member of the Israeli ‘New Horizons’ artist movement.

He represented Israel at the Venice Biennale in 1958, and was commissioned to create a sculpture for the Jewish National Memorial Mountain at Yad Vashem before moving to Canada in 1964. Eloul created the lithographic series Subtleforce  at Gemini Ltd in 1966.
