Cressida Campbell

I was working up at Griffith University doing a residency in 1986 and it was through a group called the Griffith Art Works. I was given two studios and one of them was a lithographic studio and one was an etching studio. And I didn't do etchings, all lithographs, but I really liked the look of the rooms. So, I just treated them like an interior.

There were lots of different areas in the university and I went around and I found the woodworking area, I think it might have been part of the tech attached. And there was one of those tool boards, you know the ones with the dotted Masonite and each tool fits into a certain place on the board.

And I just loved the subject, because all the shapes were interesting. I changed the colours a bit to suit the picture. But it was funny too because on the actual board it had a small saying in strict writing that said 'Do it right', which was quite bizarre. But yeah, I really like, there's a real musical quality to the design of tools on a board if you do, I mean I did actually change the colours quite a bit, but it's almost like a sort of Kandinsky feel. It's an abstract quality and so I really enjoyed that look.
