John Brack
Study for Men’s wear

Creation date: 1953

'One of the Australian artists I’ve always really admired is John Brack. Our work isn’t at all the same, but he appreciated the beauty in well-designed objects that most people wouldn’t want to look at, such as medical equipment. He had a very good graphic sense and he saw a beauty in these often slightly grotesque things. I wouldn’t say I see it in grotesque things, but I’ll see it in items such as a grater or a handsaw—in ordinary, everyday things. The splint I use on my painting hand also looks like something out of a John Brack painting.'
