In Variation and Improvisation for ‘In Harmonia Progressio’ actors respond to and perform the artist’s instructional score, creating relationships with each other, their interpretation of the score, and the gallery’s environment.
‘In Harmonia Progressio’ is Latin for ‘Progress in Harmony’. The work is performed in three-part harmony, with each group of actors repeatedly vocalising either ‘In’, ‘Harmonia’, or ‘Progressio’ to create an improvised musical composition at each unique performance. The work was first performed at the National Gallery as part of exhibition Contemporary Worlds: Indonesia in 2019.
