Simeran Maxwell on Australian Fashion Innovators
Free, bookings essential
Duration: 45 min including Q&A
Join Simeran Maxwell, Curator, Australian Art, for a closer look at innovation in Australian Fashion. In this talk, Maxwell will share how Australian designers have used text to champion inclusivity and representation and communicate important social messages.
In recent years, the National Gallery has focused on collecting work in the sphere of art/fashion and sculptural, boundary-pushing design. The acquisitions of contemporary designers DI$COUNT UNIVER$E, Romance Was Born and Iordanes Spyridon Gogos demonstrate overlapping ideas which are at the forefront of Australian fashion design today.
Art Talks are a free weekly program. Hear from artists, curators and experts on the works in our collection and exhibition program. This Art Talk is part of a series focused on the intersection of text, poetry and art.
This program is wheelchair accessible and four assistive listening devices will be available for attendees who are hard of hearing. Please email learning@nga.gov.au for more information.
