Descendants of Aboriginal soldiers who fought as part of the Palestine campaign in the First World War were among the hundreds of Australians who gathered in Israel in October 2017 to mark the 100-year anniversary of the battle of Beersheba. Truth Be Told: Lest We Forget journeys with some of these descendants to explore why this was such an important event. The documentary features Dr Doris Paton, Ricky Morris, Terry Hutchinson and Pastor Ray Minniecon.
Truth Be Told: Lest We Forget is presented in connection with Vincent Namatjira: Australia in colour at the National Gallery of Australia.
The first survey exhibition of the acclaimed Western Aranda artist, Vincent Namatjira: Australia in colour includes a series of portraits of unknown First Nations soldiers.
Renowned for producing paintings laden with dry wit, Namatjira has established himself in the past decade as a celebrated portraitist and a satirical chronicler of Australian identity. His paintings offer a wry look at the politics of history, power and leadership from a contemporary Aboriginal perspective.
Vincent Namatjira: Australia in colour is a Tarnanthi touring exhibition presented by the Art Gallery of South Australia in partnership with the National Gallery of Australia. Supported by Tarnanthi Principal Partner BHP and the Government of South Australia.
Vincent Namatjira: Australia in colour is on display at the National Gallery from 2 Mar – 21 Jul 2024
