Vincent Namatjira: Australia in colour with Bruce Johnson-McLean
For parents and carers with babies in arms
Free, booking essential.
Duration: 45 minutes including Q&A
Please meet staff at the Main Entry of the Gallery at 11am. We will travel together to Gallery 2 on Level 1 for an 11.15am start.
Join Assistant Director of First Nations Engagement and Head Curator of First Nations Art, Bruce Johnson-McLean (Weirdi, Birri-Gubba peoples), for an engaging talk on Vincent Namatjira, the first Indigenous artist to win the Archibald Prize. This talk will highlight Namatjira's unique approach as a subversive and witty portraitist and his satirical commentary on Australian identity.
This program is designed for parents and carers to attend with their babies in a baby-safe environment. We will have tactile objects available to help keep babies engaged during the floor talk.
Breastfeeding is welcomed throughout the Gallery and a Parents Room is also available on Level 1. There is easy pram access (including lifts), and infants may be carried in a soft baby carrier on the front or back.
Babies in Arms is a monthly program for adults in a baby friendly environment. All parents and carers are welcome to attend.
Vincent Namitjira: Australia in colour is on display at the National Gallery, 2 Mar Nov – 21 Jul 2024.
