Victorian-born, New Zealand artist James Peele visited Perth in 1898. Mount Eliza, winter is his only known painting of Perth. It is a view of the Swan River near the Narrows, showing people fishing, with Mount Eliza to the right and Mill Point to the left. Peel depicted the scene on an unusually cloudy day, and delighted in the reflections on the glassy water.
