Micky Allan's A Live-in Show

Join Yvette Dal Pozzo, Assistant Curator, Australian Art, as she addresses the significance of Micky Allan's 1978 exhibition Photography, Drawing, Poetry: A Live-in Show and how it has been reimagined in Know My Name: Australian Women Artists 1900 to Now.

Know My Name: Australian Women Artists 1900 to Now showcases art made by women. It brings together more than 300 works, drawn from the Gallery’s collection and other collections from across Australia. This exhibition is part of a series of ongoing initiatives by the National Gallery to increase the representation of artists who identify as women in its artistic program.

Micky Allan is a ground breaking feminist artist. Her 1978 exhibition Photography, Drawing, Poetry: A Live-in Show recreated a domestic environment within a gallery space and invited visitors to feel comfortable and linger in the space, much like you would do in a home. This deliberate union of art and life was both a revelation and inspiration for generations of Australian women artists. For Know My Name Allan worked with curators to reimagine the spirit of her original Live-in Show in a contemporary context.
