THE POSITION
The Textile Conservation Technician is an NGA level 4 position is based in the Conservation Department at the Gallery. The Conservation department employs conservators specialising in paper, paintings, objects, time-based media, textiles and preventive conservation. The textile conservation team consists of 3 textile conservators and 1 textile technician with casual conservation assistants as required.
You will be required to undertake a variety of textile construction tasks being familiar with basic principles of textile conservation, including the preparation of textiles and costume works for storage, transportation, documentation, exhibition, and loan. You will also need experience with theatre costume and Fashion construction with period specific underpinnings as well as mannequins and display support.
This position reports to the Senior Textile Conservator and is responsible for supporting the textile conservation team in a wide range of activities to care for the collection. This position of Textile Conservation Technician is an ongoing part time role with the Conservation team.
