Andrew Meares on how Body Sculpture helps us to see the future
Duration: 45 minutes including Q&A
Jordan Wolfson’s ambitious new robotic work of art, Body Sculpture resides at the interface of art history and cutting-edge technology. Join Associate Professor Andrew Meares from the Australian National University (ANU) School of Cybernetics for a talk focused on what Body Sculpture tells us about the future.
Andrew is Deputy Director of the ANU School of Cybernetics and lead of the Cybernetic Futures group. He brings thirty years of industry experience as a Walkley award-winning photojournalist at The Sydney Morning Herald. Through his research activities in visual cybernetics, Andrew applies cybernetic approaches to help understand how systems are built, sustained and maintained through the communication and control of expectations, both imagined and observed.
Andrew leads the ANU School of Cybernetics ‘Cybernetic Imagination Residency program’ and in 2022 was the lead curator of the exhibition Australian Cybernetic: A point through time.
Jordan Wolfson: Body Sculpture is a free and ticketed art experience. The work can be viewed at set performance session times. Included in the Art Talk booking is entry to the 1pm performance on the date of the talk.
