Art Steps is a series of creative making activities produced by artists for children to enjoy with family and friends.
In this Art Steps, artist Al Munro invites us into her world of colour.
“Colour is always my starting point and I love the way colours come together. I even find it interesting to use colours that feel a bit yucky to me and I often ask myself why I feel that way. I use colours to create spaces in my paintings – colours help me to create shapes that seem to sit on top or behind each other. I really like the way that some colours in a painting seem to come forward and some seem to go backwards.”
Al Munro is a Canberra-based artist working on Ngunnawal-Ngambri land. Her interests span painting, print, textiles and drawing-based art practices and her work is informed by a diverse range of sources including artistic abstraction, mathematics, architecture and philosophy to explore the relationships between visual art, craft and design practices. Al Munro has exhibited widely throughout Australia and internationally, and her work is held in public and private collections.
Anni and Joseph Albers is on display in Gallery 15 from 8 June – 22 September 2024.
