Art Labs are artist-led workshops connecting young audiences with artists, artmaking and the national collection.
Learn about the innovative textile design and loom weaving practice of artist Anni Albers featured in the exhibition Anni and Josef Albers.
Anni Albers was at the forefront of experimentation in textile design throughout the 20th century. She was the director of the Weimar Bauhaus weaving workshop during the 1920s. Later she became the first woman and the first textile artist to have a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1949.
Join the Australian Tapestry Workshop to learn fundamental weaving skills, including how to set up and warp a loom, basic weaving techniques, joins, hatching and finishing off. Weave simple shapes and lines to explore colour theory, pattern design and texture using high-quality dyed yarn.
