Artists in the Archives: Rochelle Haley on A Sun Dance
Performance in Focus
Free, bookings essential.
Duration: 60 minutes including Q&A.
Join artist Rochelle Haley for a talk focused on the development of A Sun Dance, a new performance commission that explores the relationship between dancer, sunlight and architecture.
Haley’s practice investigates spatial and temporal relationships between moving bodies and physical environments. In this talk, Haley will share how the papers of architect Col Madigan, held in the National Gallery’s archives, inspired painterly and choreographic responses in the development of A Sun Dance.
In a unique opportunity facilitated by National Gallery Archivist, Simon Underschultz, audiences will have opportunity to view Madigan’s original papers and architectural designs, along with Haley’s watercolour paintings created as part of the performance development process.
A Sun Dance is a free, ticketed performance presented on Saturday 24 February 2024.
Art Talk is a free weekly program. Hear from artists, curators and experts on the works in our collection and exhibition program. Art Talks in February focus on performance.
This program is wheelchair accessible and four assistive listening devices will be available for attendees who are hard of hearing. Please email access@nga.gov.au for more information.
