Know My Name: Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
Ethel Carrick | Anne Dangar
Join Alice Woods, Education and Projects Officer, Wikimedia Australia, and staff from the National Gallery Research Library & Archives for a free interactive workshop.
Learn how to create and edit Wikipedia entries and help us increase the information about Australian women artists available on Wikipedia, the world’s largest and most popular research tool.
Just over 19% of biographies on Wikipedia are about women. When it comes to Australian women artists, that number is even lower.
In connection with the exhibitions Anne Dangar and Ethel Carrick, this Wikipedia edit-a-thon will focus on Dangar, Carrick and their contemporaries: Stella Creed, Florence (Turner) Blake and Olive Kathleen Crane.
Participants will have the opportunity to use reference books and artist archives from the National Gallery Research Library & Archives. Basic computer skills are required. No previous Wikipedia editing experience is necessary.
Please bring your own laptop and charger.
We may be able to provide a laptop if you don’t have access to one. Please email learning@nga.gov.au if you require a computer.
Further information will be provided in advance of the event.
This program is presented in partnership with Wikimedia Australia as part of Know My Name, the National Gallery initiative celebrating the work of all women artists to enhance understanding of their contribution to Australia’s cultural life.
Ethel Carrick and Anne Dangar are on display in Gallery 12 until 27 April 2025.
