Stuff the British Stole with Marc Fennell
Duration: 90 minutes
Join ABC’s Stuff The British Stole host Marc Fennell, National Gallery Director Dr Nick Mitzevich and Adjunct Professor Margo Ngawa Neale (Emeritus Curatorial Fellow, First Nations, National Museum of Australia) for a discussion on repatriation and truth-telling.
The conversation will be hosted by historian, journalist, and filmmaker Santilla Chingaipe with an exclusive preview screening of an unreleased episode of Stuff The British Stole on the Parthenon Marbles.
The Parthenon marble sculptures are — arguably — the most controversial museum exhibit in the United Kingdom. For over a century, Greeks have insisted that they were stolen by the aristocrat Lord Elgin. Stephen Fry joins Marc Fennell in exploring this vexed conflict, which takes viewers from a secluded robotics lab high in the Tuscan mountains to a shipwreck under the Aegean Sea.
This program is presented in partnership with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and will be recorded for broadcast on ABC Radio National Big Ideas.
