Join artist Yuki Kihara for a day of professional learning focused on issues of cultural appropriation, identity and representation.
Artist talk by Yuki Kihara (45 min)
Begin the day with a guided preview tour of the exhibition Gauguin’s World: Tōna Iho, Tōna Ao, followed by a floor talk by Kihara who will discuss her ground breaking research which uncovers the links between Sāmoa and works of Paul Gauguin which suggests an overhaul and the rewriting of art history.

Join artist Yuki Kihara in talanoa with special guests featuring artist and ANU scholar Katerina Teaiwa and Climate change advocate Fagalima Tuatagaloa from the Sāmoa Fa'afafine Association with a discussion around Kihara's work entitled Fonofono o le Nuanua: Patches of the Rainbow (after Gauguin), 2020 as a point of conceptual departure to explore the complexities of Gauguin’s 'Paradise' intertwined with legacies of colonialism, hegemony, and the environment.
