Bronwyn Campbell on Art Crime and Repatriation
In July 2023, the National Gallery repatriated three bronze sculptures to the Kingdom of Cambodia. The bronzes were illegally exported from Cambodia and are connected to the notorious late art collector and dealer Douglas Latchford.
The Kingdom of Cambodia has entrusted the sculptures to the National Gallery on loan while a new home is prepared for them in the Kingdom's capital.
In this talk, Bronwyn will focus on the sculptures within the broader context of the international web of art crime, and the National Gallery’s commitment to ethical collection management that has resulted in this and other repatriations of stolen art.
