Deirdre Cannon on Lindy Lee
Deirdre Cannon, Assistant Curator, Australian Art, provides a talk focused on the work of Australian artist, Lindy Lee.
With a practice spanning more than four decades, Meanjin/Brisbane-born artist Lindy Lee uses her work to understand her Chinese ancestry through Taoism and Ch’an (Zen) Buddhism — philosophies that see humanity and nature as inextricably linked. Lee’s works harness the symbolic and alchemical qualities of the materials she uses in their creation.
Deirdre’s talk considers the meanings and stories behind the works in the exhibition, Lindy Lee, and their place within Lee’s evolving and ambitious practice.
Friday Art Talks are a free weekly program. Hear from artists, curators and experts on the works in our collection and exhibition program. This Art Talk is part of a series focused on sculpture.
Lindy Lee is on display at the National Gallery from 25 Oct 2024 – Jun 2025.
