Ken + Julia Yonetani - Edible Banquet
In 2016, Ken and Julia Yonetani created a 20m long art installation in the form of the world’s largest underwater garden, the Great Barrier Reef, created out of cake and icing sugar. Created as part of Canberra’s Enlighten Festival, as night fell the installation was lit to resemble an underwater environment and accompanied by live music. Dr Deborah Hart, Senior Curator Australian Art at the National Gallery of Australia then invited visitors to partake in actually eating the work and to contemplate the impact of human consumption on our fragile and beautiful environment.
