Versailles: Treasures from the Palace
Sculpture on loan from the Palace of Versailles for exhibition. This marble sculpture is one of the most famous works at Versailles and was the first major undertaking in Carrara marble. It was conceived at the same time as the Apollo Fountain: both are situated along the main axis of the gardens and both illustrate the sun myth. From 1670 to 1980, when it was replaced by a copy, the Latona Fountain stood in the central east–west avenue of the gardens.
